Flood situation deteriorates in Assam, over 6 lakh people affected

The flood situation in Assam has deteriorated with more than 6.44 lakh people in 19 districts being affected. Floods have claimed 35 lives so far with one person dying in Tinsukia district on Monday, said Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

Kamrup Metropolitan (Assam) [India], July 1 (ANI): The flood situation in Assam has deteriorated with more than 6.44 lakh people in 19 districts being affected. Floods have claimed 35 lives so far with one person dying in Tinsukia district on Monday, said Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
The flood report of ASDMA stated that 1275 villages under 64 revenue circles in 19 districts - Kamrup, Golaghat, Majuli, Lakhimpur, Karimganj, Cachar, Dhemaji, Morigaon, Udalguri, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Nagaon, Sivasagar, Darrang, Nalbari, Sonitpur, Tamulpur, Biswanath, Jorhat have affected in the second wave of flood.
The flood has waters inundated 26199.18 hectares of crop area.
One person died in Tinsukia district after drowning in flood waters and one person is missing in Golaghat district.
The flood situation is worse in the Lakhimpur district affecting 143983 people in the district followed by 101333 people in the Dhemaji district, 66195 people in Cachar, 64392 people in Majuli, 57422 people in Tinsukia, 55909 people in Golaghat, 40178 people in Biswanath, 28337 in Sivasagar, 25819 people in Dibrugarh, 21192 people in Karimganj, 20052 people in Jorhat district.

Following incessant rainfall in the past few days in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, many rivers overflow, and the water level of Brahmaputra River is flowing above the danger level mark at Neamatighat, Tezpur, Subansiri River at Badatighat, Dikhou river at Sivasagar, Disang river at Nanglamuraghat, Burhidihing river at Chenimari Khowang, Jia-Bharali river at Nt Road Crossing, Beki river at Road Bridge, Kushiyara river is flowing above danger level at Karimganj.
The district administration of 12 districts has set up 136 relief camps and distribution centers where over 54,200 people are now taking shelter.
The ASDMA flood report also stated that 485736 animals were also affected by the deluge.
Local Administration, Indian Air Force, SDRF, NDRF, Paramilitary Force, and Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) teams are engaged in rescue operations in many flood-hit districts.
In the past 24 hours, the floodwaters have damaged 44 roads, one bridge, and six embankments, and breached three other embankments.
Meanwhile, in view of the current flood situation in Kaziranga, the Golaghat district administration has promulgated diversion of traffic in the entire stretch of Kaziranga National Park within the jurisdiction of Golaghat district which starts Haldibari to Agoratoli under Section 144 CrPC and in the interest of public health, safety and danger to wildlife.
98 forest camps out of 233 camps under Kaziranga National Park are now under water and many wild animals have moved towards neighboring Karbi Anglong hills by crossing the National Highway 37. (ANI)
