Five killed in car-sugarcane harvester collision in Karnataka's Vijayapura

Five people were killed when a four-wheeler they were travelling in collided head-on with a sugarcane harvesting machine in Karnataka's Vijayapura district on Friday.

Vijayapura (Karnataka) [India], December 6 (ANI): Five people were killed when a four-wheeler they were travelling in collided head-on with a sugarcane harvesting machine in Karnataka's Vijayapura district on Friday, police said.
According to officials, the accident occurred around 4 PM near Bilebhavi Cross under the Talikoti police station limits, as the victims were returning from Yadgir district.
The impact of the collision was so severe that the car was reduced to a mangled heap, with the victims' bodies trapped inside.
A JCB machine had to be used to extricate the bodies.
The deceased have been identified as Shanthava Shankar Patil (45), Sasikala Jainapura (50), Ningappa Patil (55), Bhimashi Sankanala (65), and Dilip Patil (45) -- all residents of Aliabad, Vijayapura.
The bodies have been sent to Bagewadi Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
Earlier, 13 people were killed in two separate accidents in Kannauj and Chitrakoot districts.
Eight people lost their lives, and at least 19 others were injured after a double-decker bus collided with a water tanker on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway on Friday, police said.
The bus was en route to Delhi from Lucknow when the accident occurred. Sharing details of the incident, SP Amit Kumar said, "Today, a bus and a water tanker collided on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway. The bus was travelling from Lucknow to Delhi. Police reached the spot as soon as we received the information. 8 people have died in the incident, and 19 injured individuals are undergoing treatment."
In the second accident, six people were killed, and five others were injured in a road accident in Chitrakoot, police said.
Speaking to reporters, Chitrakoot Superintendent of Police (SP) Arun Kumar Singh said the accident occurred when a vehicle carrying 11 people collided with a truck while they were returning from Prayagraj after immersing a family member's ashes. (ANI)
