Five illegal Bangladeshi immigrants apprehended in Delhi-NCR

The accused were residing in the Anand Vihar area of East Delhi and attempting to evade detection. Their apprehension marks a critical step in the continued enforcement efforts of Delhi Police to ensure internal security and uphold immigration laws.

New Delhi [India], June 10 (ANI): In a focused operation under the ongoing special drive to identify and act against illegal immigrants, the East District Police on Tuesday apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in the national capital region, as per the official statement.
The individuals, including three minors, had unlawfully entered India through unauthorised riverine routes near the Indo-Bangladesh border.
The accused were residing in the Anand Vihar area of East Delhi and attempting to evade detection. Their apprehension marks a critical step in the continued enforcement efforts of Delhi Police to ensure internal security and uphold immigration laws.
According to the release, to identify and act against illegal immigrants in a time-bound manner, an extensive verification drive was initiated by the East District Police. A dedicated team from the Special Staff, under the leadership of Inspector Jitendra Malik, and under the guidance of Sh. Pawan Kumar, ACP/Operations, East District, was constituted for this purpose.
The overall supervision was provided by the undersigned. The team was tasked to gather intelligence through both human and technical sources. Through concerted and relentless efforts, the team successfully detained five illegal Bangladeshi nationals, including minors.
Based on specific intelligence inputs, a raid was conducted today by the Special Staff of East District at Anand Vihar, Delhi.
During the operation, five Bangladeshi nationals, including three minors, were apprehended.
Upon sustained interrogation, the individuals failed to produce any valid Indian citizenship documents. Furthermore, digital evidence in the form of documents pertaining to Bangladeshi citizenship was recovered from their mobile phones.
The accused is identified as Shafiqul Islam, aged 39 Years from Sadar Lalmonirhat, Bangladesh, with his wife, aged 34 Years and three minors were illegally residing in East District, Delhi, without valid documentation.
As per the release, the deportation proceedings for the individuals have been initiated in coordination with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Delhi, in compliance with due legal process.
Delhi Police reiterates its commitment to maintaining law and order and addressing issues of illegal immigration with utmost seriousness.
This operation is part of a broader drive launched on November 19, 2024, by the East District Police to identify illegal immigrants. Since the commencement of the drive, 25 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants have been identified and deported so far.
Efforts are ongoing to detect more illegal immigrants residing in the district. (ANI)
