New Delhi [India], October 26 (ANI): Lashing out at the ruling DMK over the law and order situation in Tamil Nadu, Union Minister L Murugan on Thursday said that the recent petrol bomb incident outside Raj Bhavan shows that the "first citizen of the state does not have any safety".
The Union Minister said that the incident marks a total failure of the DMK government and that the case should be taken over by the central agencies-- Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
"This is a total failure of the DMK government. Law and order has broken down because we are seeing that the constitutional head of the state, Governor's Raj Bhavan has been attacked by some gundas by throwing a petrol bomb. This incident seems as if the first citizen of the state does not have any safety and he is not allowed to perform his duty safely," Murugan said.
Earlier on Wednesday, around 3 pm, an unidentified person tried to throw some bottles of petrol outside Raj Bhavan near barricades. As soon as this was noticed by the security personnel present there, they surrounded him, confiscated other bottles from his hand and immediately handed him over to the patrol vehicle and took him to the police station.
Prem Anand Sinha, Additional Commissioner of Chennai Police said, the person has been identified as history-sheeter K Vinod who is a habitual offender with six-seven cases against him.
Union Minister L Murugan, while speaking to ANI, said that the truth should come up about who is behind the accused as he is the same person who hurled a petrol bomb at Kamalalayam, Tamil Nadu BJP's headquarters in February 2022.
"The case should be taken over by the CBI or the NIA," he added.
Meanwhile today, a case has been registered under sections 436, 353, 506(ii) of the Indian Penal Code, Section 3 of the Explosive Substances Act and Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Property (Prevention of Damage and Loss) Act at the Guindy police station, into the matter. (ANI)
