Guwahati (Assam) [India], April 28 (ANI): Assam Minister Piyush Hazarika on Monday spoke about the recent attack on Congress leader Pradyut Bordoloi, stating that the attack appears to have arisen from personal disputes over financial dealings.
He also said that the attack is not linked to the BJP, as alleged by Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi. He further stated that the area where the incident occurred is predominantly a stronghold of the Congress party.
Taking to social media, X, Piyush Hazarika wrote, "Preliminary reports indicate that the unfortunate attack on Hon'ble MP Shri Pradyut Bordoloi appears to have arisen from personal disputes over financial dealings with no links whatsoever to the BJP as alleged by the Hon'ble MP. The area where the incident occurred is predominantly a Congress stronghold, and attempts to blame the BJP are not only baseless but deeply irresponsible."

"Notably, a Congress worker had recently accused the Hon'ble MP of demanding money in exchange for a party ticket, and the present incident is suspected to be a repercussion on the same lines. The Hon'ble Chief Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, has already ordered a thorough investigation into this incident. We appeal to everyone to refrain from politicising such incidents and hope that such unfortunate events are never repeated," the post further reads.
He accused the MP of asking and demanding money in exchange for a party ticket from a Congress worker. He stated that the Chief Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, has already ordered a thorough investigation into this incident.
Recently, the Assam Congress alleged that the ruling BJP government is using the police to threaten their candidates into withdrawing their nominations from the Panchayat polls scheduled for May.
Congress workers, led by Assam Congress President Bhupen Kumar Borah and Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi, staged a protest in front of the office of the Assam Director General of Police (DGP) over the issue.
However, police put up a barricade to stop the Congress leaders led by APCC president Borah and Bordoloi.
Speaking to ANI, Congress MP Bordoloi claimed that all their candidates have either been "kidnapped, threatened or forced" to withdraw their nomination. Bordoloi went on to say, "So-called Election Commission has become a puppet."
"Apart from being a Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma is also a Home Minister, and he has let off the police force as a direct BJP agent. The police force is spread all over. They are issuing unwritten instructions for Congress candidates to withdraw their nominations by any means necessary. This is unacceptable to us. They have been let loose to force Congress members to withdraw their nomination. The DGP has to address these issues... The police are being used by the Chief Minister and the Home Minister... All our candidates have either been kidnapped, threatened or forced to withdraw their nomination... Why are you afraid to face elections?... The so-called Election Commission has become a puppet..." the Congress MP told ANI. (ANI)
