Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], July 10 (ANI): Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Thursday visited the Indian Telephone Industries Limited (ITI) in Bengaluru and hailed the fundamental role it played in the growth of the telecom sector.
The Union Minister mentioned that ITI Limited has enabled the "transition" from manufacturing rotary and push-button dial phones to producing core equipment, telecom equipment, radio access networks, routers, and PCB boards.
"ITI Limited is an institution that has made a significant contribution to our country's telecom revolution. The adaptation, along with the technological advancements that IT has made, has been tremendous. This has enabled the transition from manufacturing rotary and push-button dial phones to producing core equipment, telecom equipment, radio access networks, routers, and PCB boards. I look forward to ITI Limited taking on a more fundamental role in technology as the telecom revolution sweeps the country", Jyotiraditya Scindia told reporters.

In a post on X, he said, "Felt a deep sense of pride visiting ITI in Bengaluru, a cornerstone of India's telecom journey. Walking through its historic corridors and interacting with both young and seasoned minds was truly inspiring. From secure defence communications to fibre optics and smart solutions, ITI reflects India's quiet strength in innovation and nation-building."

Meanwhile, in a significant development, India's broadband subscriber base expanded steadily over the past year, adding two crore 5 lakh new users by the end of March 2025, reflecting an annual growth rate of 2.17 per cent, according to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) yearly data released on Tuesday.
The TRAI data show that, out of a total of 969.10 million internet subscribers, the number of broadband subscribers is 944.12 million, and the number of narrowband subscribers is 24.98 million as of the end of March 2025.
The data show that the total number of internet subscribers increased from 954.40 million at the end of March 2024 to 969.10 million at the end of March 2025, with a yearly rate of growth of 1.54%.
The rise signals increasing digital adoption across the country, driven by wider mobile broadband access, affordable data plans, and growing internet penetration in rural and semi-urban areas.
The annual data suggests that India's telecom sector saw modest overall growth in FY 2024-25, with sharp increases in data consumption and revenue offsetting stagnation in subscriber expansion, according to the latest annual performance indicators. (ANI)
