Shillong (Meghalaya) [India], November 2 (ANI): Laying emphasis on the use of biological fertilisers and pest control acquired from animal or plant waste, Meghalaya Agriculture Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Wednesday said that farmers are now understanding the value of organic farming.
"As of today 24 thousand hectares of land are organic certified as even farmers are now understanding the value of organic farming," said Lyngdoh while attending a Stakeholder Consultation Workshop on 'Unlocking Opportunities in Meghalaya.'
The workshop was held at Shillong which was organised with an aim to bring together a group of stakeholders from the agricultural sector, and government officials with a common goal of enhancing agricultural practices and addressing the challenges faced by the agricultural sector in Meghalaya.
Further stressing the need to adopt modern technologies of farming, the minister said that a very old-fashioned concept of farming is practised in the state which needs to change.
Lyngdoh also urged children of farmers to back their parents in farming so that they are able to cope with the emerging technologies in the field of farming and will be able to produce more and earn more. (ANI)
