"Extremely sad and worrying": Leaders express grief over Gujarat plane crash

Political leaders across the country expressed shock and deep sorrow over the plane crash in Ahmedabad with 242 people on board, calling the incident "extremely sad and worrying."

New Delhi [India], June 12 (ANI): Political leaders across the country expressed shock and deep sorrow over the plane crash in Ahmedabad with 242 people on board, calling the incident "extremely sad and worrying."
In a post on X, Rajasthan CM Bhajanlal Sharma expressed sorrow over the crash of the London-bound plane and prayed for the well-being of all passengers and crew members.
"The news of the Air India flight crash in Ahmedabad, Gujarat is extremely sad and worrying. I pray to God for the well-being and safety of all the passengers and crew members in this unfortunate incident," Bhajanlal Sharma said.


Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said, "The news of the crash of Air India plane carrying passengers in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, is extremely sad and painful. Relief and rescue work is going on at war footing, I pray to God for the safety of the passengers."
Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini called the incident "unfortunate" and prayed for the safety of all people on board.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan expressed shock over the incident and wrote on X, "The news of the horrific plane crash in Ahmedabad, Gujarat has shocked the heart and filled the mind with grief. In this hour of grief, the entire country stands with the bereaved family."


"The news of the unfortunate Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad is sad and painful. I pray to God for the well-being of the passengers and the aircraft staff." Saini said in a post on X.
AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi also expressed concern over the incident, "Very concerned about the Air India crash in Gujarat. My prayers are with those on the flight and their loved ones. I hope for a thorough investigation into the disaster," he wrote on X.
Former Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik said, "Deeply anguished to learn about the disastrous crash of the Ahmedabad-London Air India flight with hundreds of people onboard. My thoughts and prayers are with the families deeply affected in the tragic plane crash."
Additionally, Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav expressed grief over the incident, saying that the news is "extremely sad and heartbreaking."
"The news of the passenger plane crash in Ahmedabad is extremely sad and heartbreaking. I pray to Baba Mahakal for the safety of all the passengers and the crew," he wrote on X.
An Air India plane from Ahmedabad to London with 242 passengers crashed in the Meghaninagar area near Ahmedabad airport on Thursday. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation said that a team has been rushed to the spot for investigation.
"On 12th Jun, 2025, Air India B787 Aircraft VT-ANB, while operating flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to Gatwick, has crashed immediately after takeoff from Ahmedabad. There were 242 people on board the aircraft, consisting of 2 pilots and 10 cabin crew," said a senior DGCA official.
The aircraft was under the command of Capt Sumeet Sabharwal with First Officer Clive Kundar. Capt Sumeet Sabharwal is an LTC with 8200 hours of experience. The copilot had 1100 hours of flying experience, the official further added.
Aircraft immediately after departure from Runway 23, fell on the ground outside the airport perimeter. Heavy black smoke was seen coming from the accident site, said the official. Thick plumes of smoke could be seen at the accident spot. (ANI)
