Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], December 1 (ANI): After some exit poll projection showed the Congress leading the race to form the government in Telangana, Telangana Minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi working president KT Rama Rao said on Friday that exact polls will "give us good news."
"After a long time had a peaceful sleep. Exit polls can take a hike. Exact polls will give us good news," Minister KTR posted on X.
Exit polls on Thursday predicted that Congress is poised to form government in Telangana and that the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) would fall short of the majority mark after 10-year rule in India's youngest state.
At a news conference on Thursday, KT Rama Rao said that the BRS was confident of forming the government despite what the pollsters were claiming
"We have proved the exit polls wrong in the past too. we will do it again. BRS will return to power on December 3 with 70+ seats. This is an illogical exit poll. People are still voting. People are queuing up to vote till 9pm. I think it's very ludicrous. I've come here because I wanted to tell my party cadre that don't believe this nonsense" KT Rama Rao had said.
State Congress President Revanth Reddy asserted that the grand old party is going to get a landslide victory this time after exit poll results were out on Thursday evening.
"Congress is going to get landslide victory this time and the same thing is reflected in the exit polls. We are going to get over 80 seats...There is a screening committee, a selection committee and then the CWC has to take a call (for CM). In Congress, there is a process for everything. Being the PCC president, I will have to obey every order from the high command," Reddy told ANI on Thursday.
Telangana recorded an overall voter turnout of 70.28 per cent in the assembly polls.
The high-stakes battle in Telangana witnessed a largely triangular contest involving the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Congress.
A total of 2,290 contestants were in the fray. In 2018, BRS (then Telangana Rashtra Samithi) won 88 of the 119 seats and had 47.4 per cent of the vote share. The Congress came in a distant second with just 19 seats.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao sought a record third term in office in the polls as Congress gained momentum in its campaign in the past few months, with the BJP also talking of the "misrule and corruption" of the ruling Bharatiya Rasthra Samithi. Five states went to the polls this month, with counting slated for December 3. (ANI)
