Chennai (Tamil nadu) [India], May 6 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday said that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government has consistently fulfilled its promises and made historic achievements since coming to power, as the ruling party prepares to step into its fifth year in office.
Speaking to media reporters at Chennai's Kalaivanar Arangam, Stalin noted that the DMK had been elected for the sixth time with the people's mandate.
"Tomorrow, DMK is going to step into the fifth year. We are continuously fulfilling our election promise. Every day we create history and achieve more," he said.
Reflecting on the political environment when the DMK came to power, Stalin said, "You all know well about the situation in which we came to power. It was a religious and backward growth situation, and we aimed to take Tamil Nadu forward. These four years are a testimony to that."
He emphasised that the government's "Dravidian model" policies have been consistent. "Our Dravidian model government, its policy and service we do simultaneously. We never compromised or changed our stand on our policy," Stalin asserted.
Stalin also thanked those who helped communicate the government's schemes to the public. "The achievements should be taken and reach the people. I thank you all for doing it. Not only giving live but explaining our government schemes to people and reaching them is very much appreciated," he said.
Welcoming criticism, Stalin remarked, "I welcome the criticism. We are implementing as many schemes which are at the forefront in the country. I don't say no to criticisms. Some media criticize us much but fail to appreciate us. If appreciation comes where it's due, it will encourage us to do more."
He concluded by underscoring collective governance over individual praise. "I don't want to appreciate Stalin as an individual but the government which achieves daily," he stated.
Earlier, CM MK Stalin wrote to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, seeking immediate intervention to safeguard the lives and livelihoods of Indian fishermen following a spate of recent attacks and ongoing issues related to confiscated boats held by Sri Lankan authorities.
In his letter, Stalin highlighted the growing concerns of Tamil Nadu's fishing communities, particularly in Nagapattinam district, where 23 fishermen were reportedly assaulted at sea on May 2 by unidentified Sri Lankan nationals. (ANI)
