Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 4 (ANI): Ahead of Indian Cricket Team's 'Vijay Yatra' in Mumbai, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Thursday instructed Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar to ensure proper crowd and traffic management.
Shinde has also asked the Mumbai Police Commissioner to ensure that there is no mismanagement of traffic or inconvenience to the Indian Cricket fans gathered at Marine Drive and Wankhede Stadium.
"Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde has given directions to the Mumbai Police Commissioner to ensure that there is no mismanagement of traffic or inconvenience to the Indian Cricket Fans gathered at Marine Drive and Wankhede Stadium. Police are directed by the CM to ensure proper crowd and traffic management today at the marine drive and around," as per the Maharashtra CMO.
A huge crowd has gathered at the Wankhede Stadium and Marine Drive between Nariman Point and the stadium to welcome the T20 World Cup-winning team.
The T20 World Cup-winning team is celebrating the win in a victory parade on an open bus, followed by a ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium in South Mumbai.
India ended a 13-year ICC World Cup trophy drought with a historic victory in Barbados, as the Men in Blue defeated South Africa by 7 runs in a thrilling game.
Virat Kohli's 76 runs helped India reach 176/7, while Hardik Pandya (3/20) and Jasprit Bumrah (2/18) helped India restrict the Proteas to 169/8, despite Heinrich Klaasen's 52 in just 27 balls. Bumrah, who got 15 scalps throughout the tournament at a stunning economy rate of 4.17, got the 'Player of the Tournament' honours.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi met the World Cup-winning team and had an interaction with them at his residence in New Delhi. He interacted with head coach Rahul Dravid and the members of the Indian Cricket Team during the meet.
During their meeting with the Prime Minister, the 'Men in Blue' wore a special jersey sporting two stars over the BCCI's emblem. The stars represented the two T20 World Cup wins. The word 'CHAMPIONS' was written on the jersey in bold letters. (ANI)
