Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], April 14 (ANI): Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh on Sunday voiced concern over what he called was a 'threat to democracy' in the country and called for collective efforts to protect the nation and its marginalised sections.
Addressing a public meeting in Shimla, Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh said, "I have always been determined for the welfare of Himachal. I will raise the voice of the interests of the state at the centre".
Raising concerns over "threat to democracy" in the country, Singh said "Such circumstances are being created that there will be no elections in the future. Continuous efforts are being made to suppress the voice by using ED, CBI etc. to destroy democracy. There is a threat to democracy. Those who raise their voice are being put in jail. "It has happened first time in the history of India that two sitting Chief Ministers were sent to jail," he said.
Reflecting on the legacy of former Prime Minister and BJP leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Singh emphasized the importance of showing reverence towards him, noting that India attained nuclear power status during his tenure.
"The current wave of 'Andhbhakti' poses a serious threat to our nation. It's imperative that we unite our voices to protect the marginalized communities from the exploitation they face. We must collectively champion this cause and stand up against it," he added.
Meanwhile, A recent controversy involving Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh arose when Kangana Ranaut, the BJP's newly elected candidate from Mandi, referred to him as "Chota pappu."
Slamming Bharatiya Janata Party candidate and actress Kangana Ranaut for her "Chhota Pappu" remark, Himachal Pradesh Minister Vikramaditya Singh said that he would pray to Lord Ram to give her some "good sense."
The Congress leader further said that instead of misleading people by diverting attention, she should speak up on the real issues. (ANI)
