Prime Minister Narendra Modi

New Delhi (India), Mar 29 (ANI): The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday gave a clean chit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his address to the nation on 'Mission Shakti,' stating that it did not violate the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
The ECI had constituted a committee to look into the matter. The poll body said: "The committee has reached the conclusion that the MCC provision regarding misuse of official mass media as contained in Para (IV) of Part VII of MCC is not attracted in the case".
The EC's reply has come in response to Sitaram Yechuri's, general secretary, CPI-M, letter to the electoral body stating that PM Modi's address to the nation on electronic media on March 27 was the violation of the MCC.
PM Narendra Modi announced on Wednesday that India's anti-satellite weapon A-SAT successfully destroyed a live satellite on a low earth orbit, joining a group of three countries - the US, Russia, and China--with such capability.
"India has entered its name as an elite space power. It is the fourth country to achieve this feat after the US, Russia, and China. The 'Mission Shakti' operation was a difficult target to achieve, which was completed successfully within three minutes of the launch," PM Modi had said in his address to the nation. (ANI)
