ECI delayed LS poll schedule due to PM’s programme: Congress

New Delhi (India), Mar 10 (ANI): Congress has alleged that the Election Commission of India (ECI) wanted to announce the dates for Lok Sabha election on March 4 but dates were delayed due to the inauguration programmes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“The Election Commission wanted to announce the election dates on March 4 itself but it was delayed due to the inauguration programmes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” said Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot while addressing a press conference here on Sunday soon after the ECI the schedule for the Lok Sabha 2019 elections.
ECI on Sunday announced the schedule for the 17th Lok Sabha election, which will be held in seven phases beginning April 11. The final phase of voting will take place on May 19. The counting of votes will be done on May 23.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday in Kanpur inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for a slew of projects worth Rs 73.8 crore, including those under the Namami Gange project, aimed at cleaning and safeguarding the river Ganga.
On Saturday he inaugurated the 6.6-km long section of Delhi Metro’s Blue Line extension from Noida City Centre to Noida Electronic City Section which connects Noida with the national capital.
Congress alleged that Prime Minister Modi has failed to deliver on its promises and on May 23 the people of the country will choose a new government and will replace the Modi government.
“Congress party has exposed the failures of Modi government and on May 23 the people of the country will choose a new government and replace the Narendra Modi government which only talks and not walks,” said KC Venugopal, General Secretary, Congress party.
“None of the promises is fulfilled and the government is relying on fake propaganda and event management to cover up its failures,” said Venugopal. (ANI)
