ECI approves Sonawane Kuldip Suresh as new SP of Bengal's Paschim Medinipur

The Election Commission of India on Tuesday approved the name of Sonawane Kuldip Suresh for the post of Superintendent of Police, Paschim Medinipur.

Paschim Medinipur (West Bengal) [India], May 21 (ANI): The Election Commission of India on Tuesday approved the name of Sonawane Kuldip Suresh for the post of Superintendent of Police, Paschim Medinipur.

In a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal, Rakesh Kumar, ECI Secretary, said, "I am directed to refer to your letter No. 3438-Home (Elec) dated 21.05.2024, on the subject cited and to state that after considering the panel sent therewith, the Commission has approved the name of Dr. Sonawane Kuldip Suresh, IPS (RR:2016) for the post of SP, Paschim Medinipur."
Paschim Medinipur will go to the polls in the sixth phase on May 25.
The letter also stated, "Kindly ensure immediate compliance and confirm the same by 6:00 pm today."
Earlier, Dhritiman Sarkar served as the SP of Paschim Medinipur. The ECI had directed the concerned authorities to transfer Sarkar to a non-election related post.
Interestingly, the appointment comes amidst the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. On May 20, the state witnessed the fifth phase of elections. The constituencies of Bangaon, Barrackpur, Howrah, Uluberia, Srerampur, Hooghly and Arambagh voted in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections. (ANI)
