EC re-schedules hearing on AIADMK's two leaves case

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], Sept 22 (ANI): The Election Commission (EC) on Friday re-scheduled the hearing in connection with the merged faction of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) party's claim over the two leaves symbol and name of the party.

The announcement comes after the merged faction headed by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E. Palaniswamy and Deputy Chief Minister O. Paneerselvam moved the EC seeking claim over the party symbol and name.

In its general council meeting on September 12, the merged faction had passed a resolution stating that the AIADMK will be a unified faction and shall retrieve the two leaves symbol and the AIADMK name.

The meeting also declared the jailed party general secretary V.K. Sasikala as expelled from the party, and forfeited the post of temporary general secretary.

Before the by-election of Tamil Nadu's RK Nagar constituency in March, the EC had frozen the two leaves party symbol and issued new symbol to the conflicting factions. (ANI)
