Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], August 13 (ANI): Congress held a massive protest against "vote theft" in Rajasthan's Jaipur on Wednesday. The top leaders of the party in the state, including former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot, participated in the rally.
Gehlot criticised the Election Commission for demanding an affidavit from the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, for enquiring into his "vote theft" allegation.
"Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Sharad Pawar, Akhilesh Yadav, all these people have sent a message across the country through the protest in Delhi that votes are being stolen... Rahul Gandhi has also provided data, and the Election Commission is demanding an affidavit from him. We have seen this for the first time," Gehlot told ANI during the protest march.
"What is happening is dangerous for democracy... In Bihar, 60 lakh votes were cut, but not a single vote was added... It is against this that the State Congress Committee is protesting, in which everyone is participating," he said.
Rajasthan Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra alleged that the Election Commission has become a puppet of the BJP.
"The facts that Rahul Gandhi has presented before the country have proved that the government in Delhi has been formed based on vote theft... Double-edged swords are being used, as votes are being cut on one hand, and added on the other... The Election Commission has become a puppet of the BJP, and the BJP has become its spokesperson," Dotasra told ANI.
Congress leader Sachin Pilot alleged that efforts are being made to hollow out the country's Constitutional institutions.
"Today, questions are being raised across the country about rigging in the votes... The Election Commission is not giving any answer... I am surprised that the BJP is coming forward to defend the Election Commission. Efforts are being made to hollow out our Constitutional institutions," he said.
Earlier this week, MPs from the INDIA bloc marched to the headquarters of the Election Commission demanding the rollback of special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar. They said that the exercise would disenfranchise large sections of society. (ANI)
