New Delhi [India], Mar 12 (ANI): Dr AK Mohanty, a well-known scientist, has been appointed the new director of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC).
Dr Mohanty has taken over the charge from KN Vyas, chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, and Secretary, to the Government of India, Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), said an official statement on Tuesday.
Dr Mohanty graduated from the 26th batch of the BARC Training School and thereafter he joined the Nuclear Physics Division of BARC in 1983.
During his 36 years of stint, Dr Mohanty worked in innumerable areas of nuclear physics covering collision energy from sub-Coulomb barrier to the relativistic regime.
While taking over as director, BARC, Dr Mohanty expressed his gratitude towards his predecessors in Physics Group who have helped him in understanding finer nuances of low and high energy nuclear physics.
He also gratefully acknowledged the efforts put in by his seniors, which have helped in the completion of projects of national and international importance in which he could contribute.
"I am committed to continuing further the work of BARC in the field of societal importance," he said. (ANI)
