New Delhi [India], July 19 (ANI): The Delhi Court, while hearing the plea seeking deletion of scenes from the Netflix show 'Sacred Games' for defamatory words, ruled that it did not want to curtail the freedom of expression.
However, the court asked Netflix to provide appropriate translations.
During the hearing earlier in the day, Netflix had told the court that the English subtitle of the allegedly defamatory word in Sacred Games had changed, and the word "whimp" was being used as the English translation of the Hindi word "fattu".
In this regard, the court asked Netflix to translate correctly and examine the meaning of the offensive words used in the web series.
The show has been in limelight in the recent past, owing to the controversy surrounding the use of defamatory language against former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.
Produced by the Anil Ambani-led Reliance Entertainment's Phantom Films joint venture, 'Sacred Games' is based on Vikram Chandra's 2006 thriller novel.
The series stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Saif Ali Khan and Radhika Apte in pivotal roles. (ANI)
