DND toll collection case: CAG submits report to SC

New Delhi, [India] Apr. 03 (ANI): The national accounting watchdog, Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), submitted on Tuesday submitted its report on Delhi-Noida-Delhi (DND) Flyway toll collection case to Supreme Court on Tuesday.

Further hearing on this matter is scheduled to take place in July.

In August 2016, protesters demanded that the Rs 28 toll from DND Flyway be scrapped, alleging that the operator, the Noida Toll Bridge Company, had made enough profits during past 15 years and were still charging the public on a daily basis.

On October 2016, the Allahabad High Court ruled that there will be no toll collected from those using the flyway.

The court took this decision after it allowed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) which was filed in 2012 by the Federation of Noida Residents' Welfare Association challenging the "levy and collection of toll in the name of user fee by the Noida Toll Bridge Company (NTBC)".

NTBC had filed a filed a plea with the top court in connection with the waving off the toll tax on DND flyway.

The plea was quashed after Supreme Court on January 23, 2017 refused to resume the toll tax on the flyway.

The expressway, which opened in 2001, considerably reduces the travel time between Delhi and Noida. Commuters, however, often face huge traffic jams. An average of 1.5 lakh vehicles plies the route daily. (ANI)
