Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], April 12 (ANI): AIADMK National Spokesperson Kovai Sathyan on Saturday criticised the DMK for dynasty politics and corruption, asserting that the alliance is backed by a common minimum programme for Tamil Nadu's welfare.
Speaking to the ANI in Chennai, Sathyan said, "This is the start of a grand alliance which is going to form the government in 2026 under the leadership of AIADMK, Edappadi K. Palaniswami."
He criticised the ruling DMK, alleging that the party had begun questioning the alliance due to fear of electoral defeat. "Having sensed the defeat, they (DMK) started to question the basis of this alliance," he said.
Addressing ideological differences within the alliance, Sathyan clarified that the parties remain distinct but are united by a common agenda. "We are ideologically different, that's why we are two different parties. At the same time--the Common Minimum Programme is there," he added.
He pointed to two key issues the alliance would focus on. "The first is a dynasty in the name of democracy. That's what is happening in Tamil Nadu under DMK... and DMK's dynasty rule needs to be shown the door for the welfare of Tamil Nadu," he said.
Highlighting corruption as another major concern, Sathyan stated that the alliance would work to address such issues in the state.
He also took a potshot at CM Stalin over Tamil Nadu Minister K. Ponmudy's controversial remarks saying that people cannot expect any action from "a spineless leader like CM Stalin".
Speaking to ANI, Sathyan said, "Action can be taken by a leader who has courage, but you cannot expect any action from a spineless leader like MK Stalin. They will strip his party post, and it will be reinstated after two or three months."
He added, "This is the DNA of DMK, and whatever Ponmudy said is what the ideological belief of DMK and the DMK's ecosystem, including their parent body DK, and they go all out to any extent to mock the beliefs of a particular religion and the practices of a particular religion, particularly the Hindu religion and they are masters of it, and they take pride on this... This action on Ponmudy by MK Stalin is because he didn't want the credit to go to Kanimozhi because she was the one who flagged this issue and condemned him. He doesn't want the credit to go to his sister because there is an infighting happening between the brother and sister."
Meanwhile, Calling the AIADMK-BJP alliance the "alliance of defeat," Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Saturday attacked Union Home Minister Amit Shah and AIADMK leadership and said that the people of the state will never tolerate a "treacherous alliance" that bows to Delhi and betrays Tamil Nadu.
"The AIADMK-BJP alliance is an alliance of defeat. The people of Tamil Nadu are the ones who repeatedly handed down this defeat. Despite that, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has attempted to revive this failed alliance. The press briefing given by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit to Chennai yesterday was unworthy of the position he holds. Though it is his choice to confirm the AIADMK-BJP alliance, he did not clarify why this alliance was formed or what ideological foundation it stands on. Instead, he vaguely claimed they would work on forming a common minimum programme." CM Stalin attacked Union Home Minister Amit Shah. (ANI)
