Namakkal (Tamil Nadu) [India], April 19 (ANI): Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs L. Murugan addressed the media following an interaction with NEET aspirants at a free coaching centre run by a voluntary organization in Namakkal district, Tamilnadu.
He said that the DMK has continued to exploit the NEET examination issue for political gain.
"Free NEET coaching centres like these are turning the dreams of underprivileged students to become doctors into reality. With a vision of a developed India by 2047, the Modi government is focusing on empowering the younger generation through quality education", L Murugan said while speaking to the students.
He accused the DMK of engaging in continuous political theatrics over NEET.
"DMK is misleading students with lies, diminishing the morale of those preparing sincerely. It was during the UPA regime--of which the DMK was a part--that NEET was introduced. In fact, a DMK minister from Namakkal had approved it in the Union Cabinet", the Union Minister further said.
He also stated that many government school students are now clearing NEET exams, and that the AIADMK government, while allied with the NDA, implemented the 7.5% reservation in medical admissions to support them.
"We are sincerely working to help students become doctors, whereas DMK seeks political mileage in every issue, including NEET", he added.
While addressing the issue of the AIADMK-BJP alliance, Murugan said, "The DMK is dreaming. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is strong. In 2026, NDA will defeat the DMK and form the government in Tamil Nadu under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Unable to digest this, the DMK and its allies are spreading misinformation."
"DMK would face an unprecedented defeat in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections and claimed the party would vanish from the political scene. It is confirmed that the NDA will come to power in Tamil Nadu," he asserted.
"Ours is a strong alliance. Decisions regarding power sharing will be made by the national leadership", he said when asked about AIADMK-BJP alliance dynamics.
He criticised the current DMK leadership for adopting a confrontational approach with the central government, which he said hampers Tamil Nadu's development.
"Even former Tamil Nadu Chief Ministers like Karunanidhi had maintained cooperative relations with the Centre," Murugan said.
Earlier in the day, L. Murugan visited the Sri Narasimha Swamy and Sri Anjaneya Swamy temples in Namakkal and offered prayers for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He was accompanied by Namakkal district BJP leaders. (ANI)
