Department of School Education and Literacy celebrates International Literacy day in New Delhi

New Delhi [India], September 8 (ANI): The Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSE&L), Ministry of Education, Government of India, celebrated International Literacy Day (ILD) at Dr Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi on the fourth day of Shikshak Parv.

New Delhi [India], September 8 (ANI): The Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSE&L), Ministry of Education, Government of India, celebrated International Literacy Day (ILD) at Dr Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi on the fourth day of Shikshak Parv.
This year's program has been organized by NCERT, in collaboration with NIOS, on September 8th.
Minister of State for Education Annapurna Devi, congratulated NIOS and NCERT for their innovative efforts and said, " literacy is the pillar of overall development of any
Country. It is necessary for the country to be literate for the development of the individual as well as for the construction of society and nation. By achieving this goal poverty can be eradicated and social equality can be achieved."
Highlighting the suggestions included in the National Education Policy-2020 in the context of literacy, she said, "It is the fundamental right of every citizen to have the opportunity for literacy, to get an education and to be able to earn A living With the collective effort of government organizations, voluntary organizations, people of the community, the goal of making every citizen literate can be fulfilled. Providing digital literacy, financial literacy, environmental literacy, Gender literacy to the new generation is also the need of the hour. Everyone's contribution is essential in fulfilling the dream of Prime Minister' Educated India, Developed India. "
Chairperson of the National Institute of Open Learning (NIOS), Saroj Sharma, said, "Education is essential for a dignified life. India's literacy rate has increased at a faster rate
than before and the environment of the country is very favourable for this. NIOS and NCERT under the guidance of the Ministry of Education are doing innovative work in school education. The provisions made for school education in NEP 2020 will bring about an unprecedented change in the state of education in the country. India has been a nurturer of the tradition of education since its inception. Adult literacy has also been given utmost importance in the
National Education Policy 2020 for which NIOS and NCERT are doing meaningful work. "
Pro. Dinesh Prasad Saklani, Director, NCERT while appraising the state of literacy in India
mentioned that India's literacy rate is now 77%, which is very good progress. In compliance
with the National Education Policy 2020, the Ministry of Education has launched various
schemes to provide holistic education. NCERT also shared information about the working of the National Centre for Literacy. (ANI)
