Delhi: Tripura CM Manik Saha attends World Heritage Event at Bharat Mandapam

New Delhi [India], July 22 (ANI): Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha attended the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee in the national capital. The event, hosted by the Union Ministry of Culture, featured Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the chief guest.

The inauguration of the session took place on Sunday at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital, marking the first time India is hosting the World Heritage Committee meeting. This significant event will run until July 31, 2024.

"Attended '46th Session of World Heritage Committee' organised at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Hon'ble PM Shri @narendramodi Ji graced the occasion with his kind and valuable words. I also visited the stall by Tourism Department at the exhibition center of the event," CM Saha posted on X.
The World Heritage Committee, which convenes annually, is tasked with managing all matters related to World Heritage and making decisions on the sites to be inscribed on the World Heritage List.
Alongside CM Saha, the event saw the presence of several high-profile dignitaries, including Union Minister for External Affairs S Jaishankar, Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Director General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay, and Union MoS (I/C) for Statistics and Programme Implementation Rao Inderjit Singh.
The participation of these eminent figures underscores the importance of the session and highlights India's commitment to preserving and promoting its rich cultural heritage on the global stage.
Meanwhile, PM Modi on Sunday announced that India will contribute one million dollars to the UNESCO World Heritage Centre to provide support for heritage conservation in countries, especially in the Global South.
Speaking at the inauguration of the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee, PM Modi said that India considers the preservation of global heritage as its responsibility, and, hence, is providing support for heritage conservation not only in India but also in countries of the Global South.

India is assisting in the conservation of many heritages like Angkor Wat in Cambodia, Cham Temples in Vietnam, and Bagan Stupa in Myanmar. In this direction, I am making an announcement. India will contribute one million dollars to the UNESCO World Heritage Centre. This grant will be used for capacity building, technical assistance, and the conservation of world heritage sites," PM Modi said.
"A certificate programme in world heritage management has also started in India for young professionals," he added. (ANI)
