New Delhi [India], September 16 (ANI): The Delhi Police has arrested two persons, including a Nepali resident for stealing an Indian Small Arms System (INSAS) Rifle of Nagaland Armed Police Battalion personnel, the police said on Saturday.
The two accused persons have been identified as Vikas (25), a resident of Nepal and Kabir (21), a resident of Delhi. The Special Wing from Central District Police solved the theft case registered at Kamla Market Police Station in Delhi.
According to DCP Central Sanjay Sain, on Wednesday, an Assistant Commandant from Nagaland Armed Police Battalion reported that one service INSAS Rifle 5.56 with 20 live rounds and a mobile phone had been stolen by someone from Sentry post at Delhi's Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg area.
A case was registered under section 380 of IPC at Kamla Market Police Station. Noting the seriousness of the crime, a police team swung into action.
The team scanned a large number of CCTV footage and after cumbersome efforts of analysis of those footages, they zeroed–in on two persons who were seen stealing one INSAS Rifle 5.56 with cartridges and slipping away from the spot in a cycle rickshaw.
The team then started a search for the e-rickshaw and after concerted efforts throughout the day, the team finally succeeded in tracing it in the wee hours of Friday. It was found out that the rickshaw was owned by a Nepali resident.
The accused, Vikas was then traced and with the help of other rickshaw pullers in the vicinity, he was apprehended. His associate, Kabir was also apprehended from his residence. The stolen Rifle along with 20 rounds were also recovered from their possession. (ANI)
