New Delhi [India], July 15 (ANI): Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj has vowed that those responsible for the shooting at Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital will face justice and announced a review of security measures at all hospitals.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening, when a patient, identified as Riyazuddin, was shot dead at the hospital.
"Negligence in such cases will not be tolerated. Whoever is guilty will not be spared. The security of all hospitals will be reviewed," Bhardwaj said while speaking to ANI after the incident.
"In the last two years, the law and order situation has deteriorated under LG Saxena. Most of the forces are occupied with VIP duties, and night patrols by constables have also been stopped," he added.
According to police, the shooting occurred at the GTB Hospital at around 4.20 pm. A patient, identified as Riyazuddin from Khajuri Khas, was shot dead by unidentified persons.
Officials said that the police received a PCR call from ward No. 24 of GTB Hospital at around 4:20 pm, reporting that someone had shot and killed a patient and then fled.
"Our team arrived at the scene and confirmed that the deceased was Riyazuddin. Five empty bullet casings were found, and we are investigating whether there was any rivalry or motive behind the attack. The probe to identify the accused through CCTV footage is ongoing," Additional DCP Shahdara Vishnu Sharma told ANI.
The deceased's wife claimed that her husband was a victim of a mistaken identity.
"I met my husband yesterday. When I arrived at the hospital, I learned that he had been shot dead. They had come here to kill someone else but mistakenly shot my husband," she said while speaking to ANI.
"A person admitted to another ward had threats against him, and it seems the shooters intended to kill him but ended up shooting my husband instead," she added. (ANI)
