New Delhi [India], June 24 (ANI): Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi held a meeting with Municipal Commissioner Ashwani Kumar to improve the sanitation system in the national capital.
The purpose of the meeting was to strengthen the sanitation system in Delhi.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioners of all zones, Engineer in Chief, and other senior officials of the MCD. In the meeting, all the Deputy Commissioners briefed the Mayor and the Commissioner about the issues and problems of their respective areas.
Deputy Mayor Aaley Mohammad Iqbal and Leader of House Mukesh Goel said, "Mayor Shelly Oberoi held a meeting with Municipal Commissioner Ashwani Kumar to improve the sanitation system in Delhi. The meeting's objective was to strengthen the sanitation system and emphasise the cleaning of drains before the monsoon."
In the meeting, the Mayor directed the officials to take appropriate steps to improve the sanitation system in all zones. Additional sanitation workers should be deployed in the areas, and strict measures should be taken against the concerned zone's concessionaires to ensure proper cleaning.
She directed all Deputy Commissioners to hold meetings with their zone's concessionaires and ensure timely garbage collection from households by auto-tippers.
"Officials have been directed to take appropriate action to improve the sanitation system in all zones. Strict action should also be taken against the concerned zone's concessionaires to ensure proper cleaning in the area. Special attention should also be given to garbage vulnerable points," said Shelly Oberoi.
She also directed the officials to make special arrangements to remove C&D waste (illegal debris) in all zones. The debris on the roadsides, back lanes, and parks should be removed as soon as possible. She emphasised the need for coordination with all agencies to make Delhi a clean and garbage-free city.
"Additionally, all Deputy Commissioners should inspect their zones on the ground to identify the issues," said Shelly Oberoi.
The mayor stated that the cleaning of drains should be done on a war footing before the monsoon to prevent waterlogging in Delhi this year. Locations prone to waterlogging should be identified and additional pumps should be deployed there. She also directed the officials to take immediate action in areas where citizens reported waterlogging problems.
Shelly Oberoi instructed all Deputy Commissioners to inspect their zones on the ground to identify the issues.
Oberoi also mentioned that she and the area councillors would also conduct field inspections to ensure work is being carried out at the ground level. She stated that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi is making every possible effort to keep Delhi clean and garbage-free and is well-prepared to tackle the problem of waterlogging during the monsoon.
Earlier, on June 18, Shelly Oberoi highlighted the preparedness of the MCD for the monsoons and said a 'quick response team' has been constituted to solve the issue of water logging in the city.
She further conveyed that control rooms are also established on zonal and ward levels that will operate for 24 hours, all day, and all night to resolve the issues of the public.
She further conveyed that the action plan has been divided into two phases - pre-monsoon and post-monsoon and actions are taken accordingly.
According to the data provided by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the onset of monsoons in Delhi is dated around June 30. (ANI)
