New Delhi [India], June 18 (ANI): Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena has thanked the people of the city, especially the Muslim community for befittingly celebrating Eid-ul-Adha yesterday and recorded his appreciation for Delhi Police and the MCD, apart from other agencies for efficiently facilitating the same.

Like in the case of Eid-ul-Fitr, when upon the request of LG, Namaaz was exclusively offered within mosques and Idgah premises, this time as well devotees did not offer the Eid-ul-Adha Namaaz on roads and stuck to mosques and Idgahs, the LG office said in a press release.

"In a stark departure from the past, there was no open slaughtering of sacrificial animals, and the MCD in close coordination with the devotees and Police, ensured that the caracas' of sacrificed animals were immediately picked up and disposed at identified dumping sites," he said in the statement.

It may be recalled that last year various locations in Delhi, especially those in the North-East and North Shahdara Zone witnessed gruesome sights of blood-drenched bodies and entrails of sacrificed animals, lined up in the open on streets and even main arterial roads. Similarly, Namaaz being offered on roads was a recurrent cause of traffic disruptions, tension and flare-ups, the statement further added.

The LG has said that this had been possible because of proactive cooperation by the Muslim community and its religious heads and underlined that in a diverse city like Delhi, everything could be achieved by dialogue and discussion, it added. (ANI)
