New Delhi [India], Nov. 1 (ANI): The Delhi High Court on Thursday upheld Delhi Assembly's decision of suspending Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator OP Sharma from the House for two sessions.
The Delhi Assembly had suspended Sharma for after finding him guilty of using derogatory and unparliamentary words against Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Alka Lamba.
The Delhi High Court dismissed the BJP MLA's petition, which sought setting aside of the motion passed by the Legislative Assembly of National Capital Territory of Delhi on 31.03.2016 (communicated to the petitioner by a letter dated 01.04.2016).
The petitioner also sought a direction from the court allowing him to attend the sessions of Delhi Assembly.
The Court, after hearing all arguments, found that the present case does not justify its interference.
Earlier the ethics committee of Delhi Assembly had stated that no person can be permitted to speak in a derogatory fashion against another.
It was alleged that the petitioner not only used unparliamentary language, but also made derogatory remarks against a lady member of the House during a debate on a public issue in the House. (ANI)
