New Delhi [India], October 25 (ANI): The Delhi High Court on Friday sought a response from the Centre on a plea moved by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to provide official accommodation to its convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, following his resignation as Chief Minister.
The party stated that, as the convenor of a national party, Kejriwal is entitled to government housing in Delhi, in accordance with the guidelines set by the Election Commission of India. Plea stated that he vacated his residence at 6, Flagstaff Road, Civil Lines, in a timely manner.
The Bench of Justice Sanjeev Narula has issued a notice to the relevant ministry and authorities regarding the AAP's petition. The case is scheduled for a hearing on November 26.
Recently, Rajya Sabha member Raghav Chadha stated at a press conference that according to the law, once a party attains national status, it is entitled to two provisions: an office in the national capital for its operations and government accommodation for its national convener.
The Aam Aadmi Party's national head office relocated to 1, Ravi Shankar Shukla Lane last month after the Delhi High Court ruled on June 5 that the party was entitled to office space in the national capital.
Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has resided at his Civil Lines home since 2015, which has previously drawn criticism for the significant public funds spent by the Public Works Department on refurbishing the property. (ANI)
