Delhi HC refuses to grant parole to murder convict Vikas Yadav for looking after mother

New Delhi [India], Aug 26 (ANI): The Delhi High Court has refused to grant parole to Vikas Yadav, a convict in Nitish Katara murder case, who had moved the court seeking relief on the ground of taking care of his mother citing her medical problems.
Yadav had moved the High Court challenging the Delhi government's decision to dismiss his parole, on grounds of taking care of his mother, who he stated was suffering from spinal medical condition along with thyroid and inner stress causing her depression.
A single-judge bench of Justice Vibhu Bakhru said that there is sufficient number of relatives to look after his mother and also noted the call detail record which indicates that the petitioner's mother has been travelling extensively.
"There are a number of visits from Delhi to various parts of Uttar Pradesh, including Ghaziabad," the court noted in its order copy on Tuesday.
"In view of the above, the contention that the petitioner requires to attend to his mother as there is no one to look after her cannot be accepted. First of all, the petitioner's mother is not immobile as suggested. Secondly, she has a sufficient number of relatives to look after her," the order said.
"Yadav has earnestly contended that the petitioner has been unable to meet his mother for many years as he has not been released from custody. This argument also has little appeal considering that nothing precludes the petitioner's mother to visit him in jail," it added.
The court also considered the submissions of Ajay Katara and Nilam Katara, who raised serious objections to the petitioner being released as they fear for their safety.
Vikas Yadav and his cousin Vishal are serving life imprisonment in the case related to the murder of Nitish Katara on the night of February 17, 2002, after abducting him from a marriage party in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad as they were opposed to his friendship with their sister. (ANI)
