Delhi govt vs Centre: Rijiju tears into Kejriwal for terming SC judgment 'undemocratic'

New Delhi [India], Feb 14 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is facing flak for questioning the apex court's split judgement pertaining to the control of services and Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) between the Delhi government and the Lieutenant Governor (L-G) and calling it a verdict against democratic value.
Speaking to ANI, Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju, on Thursday, criticised the Delhi Chief Minister and opined that he should respect the Supreme Court's judgement.
"Arvind Kejriwal and Congress do not trust any constitutional body, they criticise the Election Commission, CAG, the Supreme Court and other institutions. Anarchy is in their scheme of things. They do not trust anybody, they just want to rule and loot," he added.
On Thursday, Arvind Kejriwal criticised the Supreme Court ruling in the transfer and appointment issue and said that the order is "unconstitutional" and "undemocratic".
“Today's judgment says that elected government doesn't have the power to transfer its officers. The question now is if a government can't even transfer its officers, how is it supposed to function? If an official who doesn't works can't be transferred, how is the government supposed to function? This order is unconstitutional and undemocratic,” said Kejriwal while addressing a press conference.
Claiming that the apex court ruling is in favour of L-G in four out of six issues concerning transfers and appointments and would empower the opposition instead of the ruling government, Kejriwal said, “The party that has 67 seats doesn't have the rights but the party who won 3 seats enjoys those rights. How is this democracy where the opposition has all the powers of making transfers?”
Reiterating his constant demand of full statehood for Delhi, Kejriwal further alleged that if these powers are granted to opposition party they will appoint such officials who won’t let government function. (ANI)
