Delhi Govt. urges people to cooperate with odd-even scheme

New Delhi [India], November 9 (ANI): Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot on Thursday urged people to cooperate with the odd-even scheme which would be implemented in the national capital for a five-day period from November 13 to November 17.

Speaking at a press conference, Gahlot said, "The odd-even rule will be implemented from November 13 to November 17. I request people and all agencies to cooperate with the implementation. The exemptions will be same like last time's."

He added that there would be as many as 500 more public buses on the roads to cater to the demand.

"PM 2.5 and PM 10 have crossed the prescribed levels for more than 48 hours. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government is implementing a rise in buses plying on the roads. DTC will hire buses from private vendors at the previous rates," Gahlot said.

Focusing on the health of school children, he said though schools are shut till Sunday, if need be, they will be directed to be further shut down for more time.

"No one should see this problem in isolation or that it is restricted to Delhi. This is not just the problem of Delhi, but of the entire North India," he added.

Gahlot further said the government would meet up with Ola and Uber to avoid surge pricing.

"IGL stickers for cars will be available from tomorrow at 22 CNG stations across Delhi. Also extra buses are being arranged," the State Transport Minister added.

The implementation of the car rationing system in the national capital will be implemented from November 13 till November 17.

The decision has been taken in view of the prevailing air pollution in Delhi and parts of North India.

The Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi Government, last year, implemented the alternate day travel, for cars with odd and even number license plates.

The plan was put in place twice for 14 days each in January and April respectively, to control the deteriorating air quality in Delhi NCR. (ANI)
