New Delhi [India], August 18 (ANI): Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj shed light on a pressing issue that has garnered attention regarding contract workers receiving wages below the mandated minimum in various departments of the Delhi government.
This concern has also been brought to the forefront during the proceedings of the petition committee on multiple occasions.
Minister Bhardwaj emphasized that existing government regulations stipulate that contract workers must be paid at least the minimum wage as per the contract rate.
However, instances of corruption have been reported, resulting in contract workers being short-changed and receiving inadequate compensation for their labour.
In response to these challenges, Minister Bhardwaj unveiled a strategic plan aimed at rectifying the situation. He revealed that the Delhi Government would initiate the recruitment of Data Entry Operators and other personnel through a government-owned entity known as Intelligent Communication Systems India Limited (ICSIL).
This move is expected to streamline the hiring process and ensure transparency, as ICSIL will operate with a 10 per cent commission, the entirety of which will be directed back to the government coffers.
Minister Bhardwaj further outlined a similar initiative involving the hiring of meter readers for the Delhi Jal Board, a step toward enhancing accountability and fairness in employee remuneration across various sectors.
However, Minister Bhardwaj also revealed that a bureaucratic hurdle exists in the form of an officer within the finance department.
This officer's resistance to the proposed recruitment through ICSIL has posed challenges to the implementation of these corrective measures. (ANI)
