Delhi EC advises locals to not be misled by anonymous callers on omission of names from voters' list 

New Delhi [India], Feb 10 (ANI): The Delhi Chief Electoral Office on Sunday advised the voters of the national capital not to be misled by any anonymous call even if it tells them that their names have been deleted from the electoral rolls.

New Delhi [India], Feb 10 (ANI): The Delhi Chief Electoral Office on Sunday advised the voters of the national capital not to be misled by any anonymous caller telling them that their names have been deleted from the electoral rolls.
"The citizens of Delhi are advised to beware of such misleading calls. The only authority to add or delete a name in the electoral roll is the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO). No other person can do so. Any person can apply to the ERO for including his name in the electoral roll," an advisory issued by the Chief Electoral Office reads.
In the advisory, “Several complaints have been received by the office Chief Electoral Officer, Delhi alleging that certain unknown persons/entities/sources are regularly making misleading phone calls to the citizens of Delhi telling them that their names have been deleted from the electoral roll and that the caller is trying to get the same restored in the electoral roll."
According to the Delhi Chief Electoral Office, prima facie, it appears that the matter needs to be investigated in order to ascertain the factual correctness of the allegations.
"Accordingly, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer has requested the Commissioner of Police, Delhi vide letter dated 8.2.19 to thoroughly investigate the matter and take necessary action under the relevant extant laws," the advisory said. (ANI)
