Delhi court allows ED to quiz Deepak Talwar for 5 days in jail

New Delhi (India) Mar 15 (ANI): The Patiala House Court on Friday allowed the Enforcement Directorate to interrogate AgustaWestland deal accused Deepak Talwar for five days in judicial custody.
Special CBI Judge Santosh Snehi Mann granted permission to the ED to quiz Talwar within jail from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The court has said that the lobbyist can be questioned as per the jail rules.
Enforcement Directorate who had approached the court to seek production warrant of Talwar withdrew its application following Special Judge Mann’s order.
ED had approached the court seeking production warrant of lobbyist Talvar in relation to a case of Indian airlines where it bought 43 planes from Airbus, France in 2006. The ED has claimed that Talwar allegedly received kickbacks in the deal.
The investigative agency suspected his involvement in irregular seat-sharing on Air India's profitable routes with some prominent international airlines.
Following which it had urged the court to issue a production warrant against Talwar as custodial interrogation is a must to reach a logical conclusion.
Talwar, who was extradited to India from Dubai along with the businessman Rajeev Saxena on January 30, is currently in judicial custody in a money laundering case.
Delhi’s Patiala House Court on February 14 sent Talwar to 14-day long judicial custody in connection with allegedly violating the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).
During the hearing, the ED had alleged that Talwar was involved in cases related to corporate lobbying. He was extradited to India in cases involving alleged routing and misuse of Rs 90 crore. (ANI)
