New Delhi [India], July 10 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday expressed displeasure and concern over the waterlogging in various areas yesterday due to heavy rains in the national capital.
She issued strict instructions to the officials of the concerned department to take effective steps to prevent waterlogging so that people of Delhi do not have to face problems during the monsoon season.
According to a release, the Chief Minister expressed satisfaction that despite heavy rains, there was no waterlogging on Minto Road and ITO crossings this time. She told the officers that they will have to show similar efficiency in the entire Delhi.
To find a solution to waterlogging and the problems arising from it, Chief Minister Gupta, along with PWD Minister Pravesh Verma, called a special meeting with top officials of PWD, the irrigation-flood control department and departments related to waterlogging and said that any kind of negligence will not be tolerated in the matter of waterlogging.
CM Gupta said that the officials will have to take immediate and effective measures during the rains so that the problems arising from waterlogging can be controlled in time. She instructed to immediately and continuously check the drains built on the roadside, from which water flows out and eliminates waterlogging on the road.
She laid special emphasis on the cleaning of small drains and sewers and said that ensuring uninterrupted flow of water should be a priority.
CM Gupta also gave clear instructions regarding garbage management and said that the garbage lying on the roadside, streets and drains creates a situation of waterlogging. If these are removed continuously, then waterlogging can be effectively stopped.
The Chief Minister also instructed the officers that even on the days when there is no possibility of rain during the monsoon, senior officers should visit those places where there is a problem of waterlogging. They should get these areas cleaned, check the drainage there and remove the obstacles that can cause waterlogging.
The Chief Minister also instructed the top officers to decide the duty and accountability of the field staff so that, along with the reasons for waterlogging, accountability can also be decided.
The Chief Minister said that the government is understanding the problems arising due to waterlogging. She said that to prevent waterlogging, the departments will have to keep a 24x7 vigil.
Gupta said that even if waterlogging occurs due to excessive rain, measures should be taken to clear it as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister praised the officials that this time there was no waterlogging at Minto Road Bridge and ITO crossing. She said that the departments will have to show similar efficiency in other areas as well. (ANI)
