New Delhi [India], June 3 (ANI): A Delhi-based startup that supports social initiatives in mitigating global challenges will bring women environment leaders from across the world on one platform to mark World Environment Day 2022.
The startup, named BASIC (Bridge Association for Social Initiatives aiming at 'Change'), that emerged earlier this year, works towards structuring and enhancing the social initiatives with a vision to collectively work towards a better world for future generations.
As an early step towards achieving this revolutionary vision, they will organise an engaging virtual event - 'She talks Nature' on June 5 at 5 pm, partnering with United Religions Initiative (URI).
URI is the world's largest global grassroots interfaith network, present in more than 110 countries. Shrishti is the knowledge partner for the event.
Explaining the inspiration behind the event, Geetanjali Atri, Director, Programmes and Outreach, BASIC said, "Even as the world recognises the complementarity of interaction between gender equality and enhanced environmental outcomes, women still remain increasingly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Today, the conscious lot of the world has accepted that despite all the vulnerabilities faced by them, women provide invaluable contributions to sustaining communities and managing the earth's biodiversity and natural resources. Our idea is to honour the contribution of women in protecting the #onlyoneearth".
World Environment Day, observed on June 5, is the biggest international day for the environment. Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and held annually since 1973, it has grown to be the largest global platform for environmental outreach. It is celebrated by millions of people across the world.
In line with the 2022 World Environment Day theme 'Only One Earth', 'She Talks Nature' aims to bring together the voices of women from across the world as they discuss the most pressing environmental concerns and the way ahead.
The virtual World Environment Day celebration would see a mix of live interactions and recorded participation of women leaders from the domains of academics, faith-inspired organisations and social-change actors.
"The latter would be launched in the form of three videos where these women experts and enthusiasts would share their key learnings from their work in the diverse directions concerning environmental threats and challenges," a release said.
The live sessions would be marked by a discussion between the moderator, Geetanjali Atri and the invited speakers. The speakers belong to diverse backgrounds. They include Prof Priyanka Kaushal, Associate Professor, Centre for Rural Development and Technology, IIT-Delhi; Azmaira Alibhai, Faith and Ecosystems Coordinator, UNEP Faith For Earth; Kanchana Weerakoon, President, Eco-Friendly Volunteers, Colombo, Sri Lanka and Acharya Pratishtha Ji, Yoga Guru and Author. Rev Lauren Van Ham, Climate Action Coordinator for United Religions Initiative would also share her thoughts. (ANI)
