New Delhi [India], Dec 12 (ANI): Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) chairman KC Mittal on Thursday welcomed the decision of Aam Aadmi Party government to allocate a fund of Rs 50 crore for the welfare of lawyers under the Chief Minister Advocate Welfare Scheme.
"This remarkable beginning to provide social security to advocates in Delhi has happened for the first time in the history of the legal profession at the behest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Law Minister Kailash Gahlot," Mittal said in a statement.
"Much more is to be done so that all practising advocates are comprehensively covered under welfare schemes. Let us work together for more comprehensive schemes for all the advocates," he added.
The BCD also said that it is a most significant and historic achievement for the advocates in Delhi as advocates would be granted a mediclaim insurance for Rs 5 lakhs and term insurance for Rs 10 lakhs, in case of natural death, under the Chief Minister Welfare Fund established by Kejriwal.
The four scheme of group insurance are going to cover nearly 40,000 advocates in Delhi, whose law degrees have been verified and those who have cleared All India Bar Examination (AIBE), as per the available records.
Earlier today, 13 Member Committee headed by the Supreme Court Bar Association President Rakesh Khanna submitted recommendations to Kejriwal regarding Chief Minister's Advocates' Welfare Scheme.
The schemes consist of group mediclaim coverage for the advocates, their spouse and two dependent children, e-library with 10 computers loaded with e-journals in all the 6 district courts, and creche facility for advocates and staff employees. (ANI)
