New Delhi [India], Aug 10 (ANI): To tackle the growing menace of stray dogs and monkeys in the state, the Delhi Assembly on Friday constituted a five-member committee for the same.
The committee, which has been given the responsibility to come up with the solution to tackle the issue, will be headed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Somnath Bharti and will also comprise of AAP MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj, AAP MLA Alka Lamba, AAP MLA Rajesh Rishi and Bharatiya Janata Party (MLA) MLA OP Sharma.
The decision comes after a number of MLAs raised the issue of growing numbers of stray dogs and monkeys in the streets here.
"They (dogs and monkey) have attacked a number of people. This is a matter of concern. Though the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is responsible to look into this matter, they are not taking any steps in this regard. So we have formed this committee," said AAP MLA Alka Lamba.
Meanwhile, another MLA Somnath Bharti said that they would try to come up with a balanced solution so that both animals and humans could remain protected.
In 2007, Delhi's Deputy Mayor SS Bajwa died after falling from the terrace of his house following an attack by monkeys.
The Delhi High Court, in the past, had also pulled up the MCD over the same. (ANI)
