New Delhi [India], October 25 (ANI): Amid Delhi's ongoing air quality crisis, New Delhi Municipal Committee (NDMC) Vice Chairman Satish Upadhyay alleged that the Delhi government is deeply involved in corruption and disinterested in carrying out any meaningful work.
"Delhi government is totally corrupt, and they are not interested in doing any work; they just talk and put blame on others," Satish Upadhyay said.
Continuing his attack, the NDMC Vice Chairman alleged that Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal either attends the NDMC meeting or adjourns the meeting.
"Either he(Arvind Kejriwal) doesn't attend NDMC meeting or he adjourns the meeting and runs away...he never gives answers to questions...500+ stubble burning cases have been reported from Punjab where there is AAP govt and 100+ cases from Haryana...when will AAP government take action? After Delhi turns into a gas chamber? or When people fall sick?" he added.
Meanwhile, Kuljeet Singh Chahal, the General Secretary of the Delhi BJP, pointed out that around 561 cases of stubble burning have been reported in Punjab.
"Today there was a meeting of NDMC...earlier, Arvind Kejriwal used to say that if AAP government comes to power, there won't be any stubble burning cases...but around 561 stubble burning cases have been reported from Punjab. When we asked what all initiatives they (AAP govt) have taken for various issues in Delhi, he (Arvind Kejriwal) had no answers and he tried to run away after adjourning the meeting...we will keep raising our voices and will keep asking questions to Kejriwal," Delhi BJP General Secretary said.
Earlier today, Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said that there is a need for the Central government to sit with states and make a long-term plan to curb pollution in Northern India instead of laying the blame on Delhi.
Speaking to ANI, Bharadwaj said "I believe that pollution is the problem of entire North India. Sometimes pollution is more in Uttar Pradesh, sometimes a city of Haryana comes at number 1, and sometimes a city of Rajasthan goes in at number 1 in the world. For this, all the states and the Centre will have to work together."
He further said that it is petty politics to blame Delhi for the pollution, as the Union Territory is very small in size compared to other neighbouring states.
"If you look at the area of Delhi, Delhi is so small that it is not even visible on the map of India. To think that pollution is happening in North India because of Delhi is petty politics. The central government will have to work with the states to make better and long-term plans. Only when pollution comes, blaming others will not help," he added.
The NCR encompasses Delhi and several districts surrounding it from the states of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
The overall air quality in the national capital on Wednesday morning was recorded in the 'moderate' category, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) at 190, as per SAFAR-India.
As stubble burning continues in parts of Punjab and Haryana, air quality in the national capital has worsened in the past few days. According to data, over 2,500 cases of stubble burning have been reported this year so far. However, farm fire numbers are better than those of the previous two years. (ANI)
