New Delhi [India], August 31 (ANI): A delegation of prominent Muslim religious leaders and scholars from across India met with Union Minority Minister Kiren Rijiju at his residence on Saturday.
The delegation was led by Hazrat Syed Naseruddin Chishty, Chairman of the All India Sufi Sajjadanashin Council and the spiritual head of Ajmer Dargah. The meeting was coordinated by Shehzad Poonawalla, National Spokesperson of the BJP.
According to sources, during the meeting, the delegation discussed various issues concerning the Muslim community, with a particular focus on matters related to Waqf Boards. The leaders presented their concerns and sought the government's support in addressing them. The discussion also covered broader issues affecting the Muslim community across the country.
The delegation told the minister that the Waqf Boards are creating problems for Muslim communities across the country. They demanded that a separate Dargah Board be established to manage the affairs of Dargahs and that the government should intervene to stop the atrocities of Waqf Boards.
The delegation also expressed their confidence in the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), which has been constituted by the parliament and will give an opportunity to hear the Dargahs from across the country about their issues and grievances with the waqf board and the same will be incorporated along with suggestions of other stakeholders.
The delegation gave full support to the government for its initiative, saying that this was the step in the right direction to ensure better management, transparency and accountability of the Waqf and to ensure that the Waqf and the properties are utilised for the benefit and sake of the poorest of the poor Muslims and that it's not subjected to land grabbing and corruption.
Hazrat Syed Naseruddin Chishty suggested that help desks should be set up at Muslim religious places to disseminate information about government schemes for minorities. He also demanded that a separate act be enacted for Dargahs across the country to protect them from Waqf Board atrocities.
