"Deeply saddened": PM Modi expresses grief on demise of folk singer Sharda Sinha

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed his deepest condolences on the demise of the legendary folk singer Sharda Sinha.

New Delhi [India], November 6 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed his deepest condolences on the demise of the legendary folk singer Sharda Sinha.
PM Modi remembered her contribution to the Bhojpuri and Maithili folk music, saying "echo of her melodious songs will last forever." He further said that her demise is an "irreparable loss" for the music world.
Taking to a social media post on X, PM Modi wrote, "I am deeply saddened by the demise of renowned folk singer Sharda Sinha ji. Her Maithili and Bhojpuri folk songs have been very popular for the last several decades. The echo of her melodious songs associated with the great festival of faith, Chhath, will last forever. Her demise is an irreparable loss for the music world. My condolences are with her family and fans in this hour of grief. Om Shanti!"


President Droupadi Murmu also expressed grief over the death of the singer and said that the news of her demise was "extremely sad."
As the festivities of Chhath Puja have surfaced in the nation, President Murmu, remembering Sinha's contribution to the music world, said that her songs must be creating a "divine atmosphere" in the country and abroad.
President Droupadi Murmu tweeted, "The news of the demise of Dr Sharda Sinha ji, a famous singer known as Bihar Kokila, is extremely sad. Sharda Sinha ji gained immense popularity in the music world by giving her melodious voice to Bihari folk songs in Maithili and Bhojpuri. Today, on the day of Chhath Puja, her melodious songs must be creating a divine atmosphere of devotion in the country and abroad. She was also awarded the Padma Bhushan in the field of art in the year 2018. Her melodious singing will remain immortal. I express my deepest condolences to her family and fans."


Condoling her demise, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid 'humble' to the singer and said her demise is an "irreparable loss" to the music industry. He prayed for the peace of the departed soul.
"The demise of renowned folk singer, Padma Bhushan Dr. Sharda Sinha ji is extremely sad and an irreparable loss for the entire music world. Humble tribute to her! Through her excellent traditional singing, she served many folk languages including Maithili, Bhojpuri and folk culture and brought her respect on the national stage. I pray to Lord Shri Ram to give a place to the departed soul in his lotus feet and provide strength to her bereaved family and fans to bear this immense loss. Om Shanti!" CM Yogi posted on X.


Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said that he is "deeply saddened by the news of the demise of Sharda Sinha ji, who adorned Indian folk music with her unique and melodious voice."
"I am deeply saddened by the news of the demise of Sharda Sinha ji, who adorned Indian folk music with her unique and melodious voice. In this difficult time, my condolences are with her family. May God grant peace and salvation to the departed soul. Om Shanti," Majhi said in a post on X.


Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Vinai Kumar Saxena also paid tribute to the legendary singer by remembering her contribution to the folk music industry, especially Chhath songs and called her "the musical voice of Chhath."
In a social media post on X, Delhi LG wrote, "Sharda Sinha, the musical voice of Chhath, the great festival of folk faith and nature worship, merged with Chhathi Maiya today. My tribute!"
Sharda Sinha, celebrated for her soulful Chhath songs, died on Tuesday, after battling multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer for several years.
The Padma Bhushan awardee had been undergoing treatment at AIIMS Hospital in New Delhi after being admitted on October 27.
Sharda Sinha has been a music veteran since the 1970s and contributed immensely to Bhojpuri, Maithili, and Hindi folk music. Her work was recognized with the Padma Bhushan in 2018, and she was also honoured with a National Film Award for her contributions to regional cinema. (ANI)
