Amaravathi (Andhra Pradesh) [India], October 30 (ANI): Andhra Pradesh Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar announced that the state will launch the Deepam 2.0 Scheme from November 1.
"The voters have given us an overwhelming mandate, and we are committed to their welfare," said Manohar, speaking to ANI.
"Despite inheriting a debt of Rs 11 lakh crore from the previous government, we remain focused on our welfare commitments. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has already advanced over Rs 800 crore to three companies for this scheme, with a budget exceeding Rs 2,000 crore that may be expanded in the coming years," Manohar added.
The Minister stated that there are currently 1.47 crore ration cards and 1.55 crore LPG connections in the state. "We have already received over 4 lakh bookings from beneficiaries and will take all necessary steps to ensure the success of this initiative."
Earlier, a release noted that the free cooking gas cylinder scheme, part of the Super Six promises, has been activated as the State Government released the required funds for the Deepam 2.0 scheme.
On Wednesday, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu handed over funds to representatives of gas companies for this purpose. The subsidy amount was distributed to representatives of Bharat Petroleum, Hindustan Petroleum, and Indian Oil Corporation at the State Secretariat's first block.
The State Government has committed to providing three cooking gas cylinders per year to all eligible women in the State, as promised by CM Naidu during the recent elections. The Cabinet recently approved a total expenditure of Rs 2,684 crore per annum for these free cylinders.
On Wednesday, the Chief Minister presented cheques totalling Rs 894 crore to petroleum company representatives as the subsidy for the current month. Under the Deepam 2.0 scheme, the state will supply one free cylinder every four months and will release the necessary funds as required, according to the release.
Eligible beneficiaries can now book cylinders, with the facility coming into effect on Tuesday. The amount of Rs 876, excluding a central subsidy of Rs 25, will be credited to beneficiaries' personal accounts within 48 hours.
Minister for Civil Supplies Nadendla Manohar, along with Deepam scheme beneficiaries from Tenali, Balamma, Bhavani from Eluru, Mangatayaru from Vijayawada, and others, were present. (ANI)
