Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], March 23 (ANI): BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan questioned why Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin had organised the first Joint Action Committee meeting on delimitation when the Election Commission has clarified that there will "no change in the number of seats."
The BJP leader also accused the Chief Ministers of Telangana, Punjab and Kerala who attended the meeting of "deceiving" the people of their respective States.
"It is clearly written on the Election Commission website that there will be no change in the number of seats... why do they want to hold a meeting despite all the clarifications? They (DMK) are deceiving the people of Tamil Nadu. Other Chief Ministers who have come here are also deceiving the people of the respective states...," Soundarajan told ANI.
She also accused the ruling DMK government of misleading the people of Tamil Nadu on the issue of the language policy.
"We want to clearly highlight the importance of the new National Education Policy (NEP), they are misleading the people of Tamil Nadu... NEP only means three language policy... We want to clarify the doubts raised among the people by the DMK party," the BJP leader told ANI.
The Joint Action Committee on delimitation was held in Chennai under the leadership of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Saturday.
After the meeting, the committee unanimously adopted the resolution which asserts that "any delimitation exercise carried out by the Centre should be done transparently and after discussion and deliberation with all stakeholders"
The meeting was attended by various political leaders, including Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, Odisha Congress President Bhakta Charan Das, and Biju Janata Dal leader Sanjay Kumar Das Burma, among others.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has said that the next meeting on the delimitation of constituencies will be held in Hyderabad, Telangana. (ANI)
