Debt-ridden farmer commits suicide, Pradhan visits family

Bargarh (Odisha) [India], Feb. 20 (ANI) : Union Minister Dhamendra Pradhan on Tuesday paid a visit to the family of a farmer, who had committed suicide in Odisha.

Debt-ridden farmer commits suicide, Pradhan visits  family

Bargarh (Odisha) [India], Feb. 20 (ANI) : Union Minister Dhamendra Pradhan on Tuesday paid a visit to the family of a farmer, who had committed suicide in Odisha.

The deceased has been identified as Khemsagar Biswal, who resided at Nuapalli village in Gaisilet block Bargarh in Odisha. He had allegedly committed suicide on February 15 by consuming poison.

He was later admitted to Bargarh district headquarters hospital in a critical condition. He was then shifted to Burla, a nearby village in Odisha, where he succumbed to poison after two days.

In 2015 the farmer had borrowed a huge amount of money from private lenders for her daughter's wedding.

According to the family, the farmer was unable to pay-off the debts due to the continuous crop failure since three years causing immense distress to the entire family.

The Union Minister also sat along the village panchayat and others members of the village to discuss their day-to-day problems. (ANI)
