Dholpur (Rajasthan) [India], Nov 20 (ANI): A woman from Uttar Pradesh was rescued by the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) after a complaint was filed by a man, hailing from Dholpur, Rajasthan, alleging illegal confinement and torture of his fiancee by her parents.
In his complaint, he said that he was engaged to the girl during a ceremony held four years ago. However, she was pressurized to marry another man. Besides, she wasn't allowed to meet or speak to anyone. The complainant alleged that the girl's parents have fixed her marriage with someone else for November 19 against her will.
He approached the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) when he failed to get help from any quarters. Responding to the complaint, the Commission contacted the Rajasthan Police to look into the matter. Though police personnel was sent to her house where she was confined, they returned without the girl and left the issue to be resolved by the village panchayat.
Afterward, a team was constituted by the DCW and SHO of Baseri police station was asked to help by gathering more information about the girl. However, the SHO didn't provide any information.
Finally, upon the instructions of the DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal, a team of two counsellors from was sent to the office of Additional SP of Dholpur district.
When the DCW team reached the office of SHO of PS Baseri, they were requested to wait in the Police Station and the police left to bring the girl with her father. After two hours, the SHO informed the Commission that the door of the girl's house was locked.
Meanwhile, the Commission received information that the girl has been taken to Horipura village, near Tantpur, in Agra. The Commission also got to know that the girl's family is planning to kill her.
The DCW counsellors were rushed to the spot. In the meantime, DCW chief Swati Maliwal contacted the SSP of Agra who provided immediate assistance through SHO, Mahila Thana, Agra. Consequently, the location of the girl was traced. The girl was finally rescued from Agra.
"It is unfortunate that parents are willing to kill their own children to satisfy their false egos. I appeal to the people not to indulge in such acts. I thank the UP Police for cooperating with the DCW. I wish the best for the couple," Swati said. "The girl is now in safe hands," she added. (ANI)
