New Delhi [India], Nov 1 (ANI): The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has assisted a woman in registering an FIR of rape against a self-styled godman from Gorakhpur named 'Amit baba mazaar wale', who is the owner of an Ashram near a shrine in Parmeshwarpur, Bhandaro in the Gorakhpur district.
The woman had been allegedly held captive by the god-man for a period of two years and managed to run away and reach Delhi with the help of a worker in the Mazaar.
The Commission was approached by a woman who informed that one-and-a-half year ago she had shifted to Gorakhpur along with her family in search of employment. She started working in a factory in Bhagwanpur in Gorakhpur. While working there she met a woman who introduced her to Baba Amit mazaar wale, whom she claimed could help in curing her illnesses.
Trusting her friend, she decided to meet the godman who convinced her that her illness will be cured. The woman alleged that he gave her a medicine, which she consumed and began to feel nauseatic. The Baba gave her his contact details and asked her to contact him if any problem arises regarding her health.
The Baba asked her to visit him at the Mazaar. Upon reaching there, she was allegedly held captive by the Baba, and was sexually assaulted by him continuously over a period of two years.
The woman further alleged that he threatened to kill her family if she told anyone about the assault. Hurt and in pain, she made an unsuccessful attempt, to escape the torture but was caught while escaping and was brutally assaulted by the Baba and his associates.
Covered in blood and barely conscious she managed to escape to Delhi with the help of someone working at the Mazaar.
She reached the DCW where she was properly counselled. She narrated her ordeal to the Commission, alleging that the Baba had held her captive for two years. While the woman wants to fight for justice, she is concerned for her safety as the Baba has threatened her time and again of destroying her life and claims to enjoy a political clout.
The DCW chief Swati Maliwal and member Kiran Negi met the woman and sent a notice to Delhi Police for ensuring registration of the FIR. Finally, after efforts of the Commission, a zero FIR in Kapashera police station under sections 376, 323, 342, 328, 506 and 120B was successfully registered by Delhi Police. DCW Chief has also requested Delhi Police to provide security for the woman.
DCW Chief stated, "The Commission receives several complaints from girls and women who have been sexually assaulted by fraud self-styled godmen. The Commission appeals to the people to be wary of such Babas and be governed by logic instead of superstitions. The Commission has also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure a legislation to regulate the functioning of such Ashrams and ensure regular Government checkups in the same". (ANI)
