New Delhi [India], September 13 (ANI): The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Wednesday set up an expert committee for controlling the open sale of acid and the rehabilitation of acid attack victims.

DCW forms expert committee take on open sale of acid

New Delhi [India], September 13 (ANI): The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Wednesday set up an expert committee for controlling the open sale of acid and the rehabilitation of acid attack victims.

DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal said, "The tenure of the committee will be for three months. The committee will give its report to the commission in three months and its recommendations to the government."

The committee has 11 members. Supreme Court senior lawyer Rebecca John will lead the panel.

The committee will consist of police officers, lawyers and officials from various government departments.

The committee will research on the compliance of various instructions issued by the Supreme Court and governments to prevent the sale of acid.

The committee will draft legislation for banning the sale of acid. It will also prepare a model program for the rehabilitation of the attack victims and device strategies to bring them into the mainstream.

The committee will seek suggestions of acid attack victims for this purpose.

The committee will also study best practices and or policies devised in the country or abroad for rehabilitation of the attack victims. (ANI)
