Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], Oct 17 (ANI): The death toll in Odisha due to cyclone Titli and subsequent floods has risen to 52.
The toll may go up as the authorities are in the process of verifying 10 more cases who went missing in a landslide in worst-affected Gajapati district.
As per the preliminary estimate, property worth Rs 2,200 crore have been damaged.
Meanwhile, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has increased ex-gratia from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 10 lakh each for the kin of the deceased, who have been affected due to cyclone Titli in the state.
The people died due to landslide, falling of trees, drowning, wall collapse, in the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Angul, Keonjhar and Nayagarh.
Three districts of Odisha - Ganjam, Gajapati, and Rayagada - were severely affected by cyclone Titli, heavy rains, and the subsequent floods earlier this month.
According to Office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), more than 3.6 lakh people were evacuated to safer places and sheltered in relief centres.
Earlier on Tuesday, Patnaik had directed the officials to provide an assistance of Rs 1000 along with 50 kg rice and 2-litre Kerosene to each ration card holder affected by cyclone Titli and its aftermath. The remaining assistance of Rs 2000 will be transferred to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries soon.
The Odisha government had also announced to provide two months advanced ration to the people in the Gajapati district. (ANI)
